last time we brought you news of Notion Ink’s long awaited
Adam things weren’t looking good, but we had some hope since its
CEO Rohan Shravan assured us that it would hit
some markets in Q3. He also promised that a pre-order page for the Tegra 2-powered,
Pixel Qi-sporting slate would launch soon. It really does pains us to say this, but it doesn’t look like any of that’s going to be happening anytime soon — we’ve received word that the company has lost a great deal of cash and that some of its major investors walked away a few weeks ago. As we’ve heard it, the company missed its July / August timeline to ramp up manufacturing because of a very big loss from an early investor. As such, the India-based company had to look for new funding, and apparently seek out a new manufacturer. We’re told they’ve secured a bit more cash now, but things are on extremely shaky ground. Shravan wouldn’t comment on the news, but he did tell us that he still plans to bring the Adam to market before the end of 2010. We admire that persistence and certainly believe the Adam is one of the more innovative tablets out there, but we’re gonna hold on to these tissues until we see an order page and some real evidence that things are turning around for the start-up.

If you’ve always wanted a D&D-style bag of holding, we’re thinking Infinitec’s IUM is as close as you’re going to get, looking like a plain ‘ol USB thumb drive but actually storing an infinite amount of, well, stuff. However, you’re going to have to wait a little longer to reach into this magic satchel, with the unit’s ship date being delayed until the end of August. The price is still the same, at $129, and the company was kind enough to create a video just for you that shows how it all works. It’s embedded below, but if you’re looking for the Cliff’s Notes it shows pairing the thumb drive to a computer, installing some hosting software, and then streaming the Avatar trailer from a laptop to an Xbox 360 in HD with seemingly no lag nor dropped frames. Looks great, but will it work that well in the real world on a typical internet connection? We can’t wait to find out.

We were starting to think something was up with the Boxee Box as Q2 started to fade away without any word on the scheduled launch, and unfortunately we were right: Boxee has just confirmed to us that its hotly-anticipated media streamer will be delayed until November in the US and Canada. Boxee says the original launch plan has proven to be “overly ambitious,” and that the delay is purely software-related — the Tegra 2 based hardware we saw at CES will remain the same.
If we had to guess, we’d say at least part of the delay can be attributed to Adobe, since Flash 10.1 just went final yesterday and Boxee is depending on it as a core feature, but either way, the company’s goal to provide the full PC Boxee experience complete with full-res 1080p video playback from virtually any local or remote source on a small embedded platform is an ambitious one — we’ve got our fingers crossed, let’s hope we hear good news from Avner Ronen and crew come November.

And here you were thinking this thing had vanished into the never-ending Lairs of Vaporwareville. Lucky for you, the gents and gals over at FastMac have been hard at work caving to the also never-ending list of demands from the UL and various other safety agencies. That means that the utterly brilliant U-Socket is indeed still on track for mass production, but it’ll be slightly redesigned and stacked with a few bonus features by the time it hits the market. According to an update sent out to loyal pre-orderers (which can be seen in full after the break), the USB sockets have been relocated as a compliance measure, but now, they’re of the SuperSpeed variety. Each one is also capable of 10W power (read: iPad-friendly) and it also smokes the EPA’s Energy Star requirements. The modifications have pushed the expected ship date back to October, and the original $9.95 price has been bumped up to $19.95 — though the company is quick to point out that each one is made in the US of A, and those who got in early will have their orders honored. An extra Hamilton for USB 3.0 and 10W charging? We’re still as sold as ever.

If you’re one of the truly lilliputian proportion of PC gamers who actually bought two of either the GTX 470 or GTX 480 from NVIDIA in the hope of running a tri-monitor 3D gorgefest, we’ve got bad news for ya. If you’re anyone else, enjoy the schadenfreude of knowing that those first guys will have to keep waiting for 3D Vision Surround support until the end of June. As NVIDIA tells it, the driver bringing the tri-dimensional, multi-monitor gaming nirvana was targeted for an April release, but has now slipped a couple of months. It’s disappointing to see one of the major selling points of the GTX 400 series coming so much later than the cards’ release, but at least ATI’s around to console you if you’re feeling jilted. The company has set up an Eyefinity Experience Tool that does a good job illustrating the benefits of gaming on a trifecta of monitors over a single display. Hit the source links for more.

Remember when Best Buy decided to start hawking Viliv wares back in March? Notice how the S10 Blade wasn’t one of them? Guess we know why. According to an email sent from Dynamism to a tipster who ordered an S10, the device has actually been “delayed by the factory.” It was slated to ship out on April 22nd, but now, the crew of S10 variants will be shipping between late April and mid-May. We know, you’re broken hearted, but look on the bright side — Opera Mini is taking over the world! Cheer-up video just past the break.
