In a world of automotive cellphone hate, Ford promotes SYNC as the solution

In an age of automotive cellphone hate, Ford promotes SYNC as the solution

Texting while driving may not be banned where you are yet, but it probably it will be soon, and Ford is pretty okay with that. As we saw at CES this year, the company is promoting SYNC and MyFord as solutions to distracted driving, enabling the car to read text messages to you so that you can keep your eyes on the road. The blue oval is working to get RIM digging Bluetooth MAP, enabling streaming of text messages to cars, functionality said to be coming in “all new BlackBerry smartphones.” Beyond that Ford is touting its new “Do Not Disturb” button to block all incoming calls and text messages while still allowing outgoing calls and use of the phone for providing data to the car. This is in addition to already disabling much of the phone’s functionality whilst in motion, keeping you focused on what you should be doing: shaving, reading the newspaper, and eating breakfast.

GAEMS suitcase is the solution for bad-spelling, frequently-travelling Xbox 360 gamers

GAEMS Suitcase is the solution for bad-spelling, frequently-travelling Xbox 360 gamers

Schlepping your Xbox 360 around in your carry-on is a hardly ideal solution for platinum-level frequent fliers. Not only does it take up a significant portion of your roller, but once you get where you’re going there’s no guarantee that your hotel’s wood-paneled tube will know what to do with your high-end gaming machine. Enter the GAEMS Portable Console Gaming and Entertainment System, which carries not only an Xbox but also a 15-inch, 720p LCD in the lid, and speakers to boot. Flip open your console and you’re good to go, though we’re wondering whether there’s room in there for the power brick too. We do know that your controllers will not fit, which seems like an unfortunate design choice if you ask us. The GAEMS suitcase ships sometime before the end of the year for around $250, and yes there are PS3 and new Xbox 360 versions coming too.

MSI Graphics Upgrade Solution seeks an ExpressCard slot to call home

Category: Industry Happeningsadmin @ 8:17 am

It seems like we’ve been talking about external graphics cards forever, but how many do you recall that look quite as raw and ready as this? The Graphics Upgrade Solution, set for a full unveiling at Computex, is MSI’s latest answer to the eternal problem that is gaming on the move. Serving as a conduit — via its own PCI Express interface and the oft-neglected ExpressCard slot — between desktop GPUs and laptops, the GUS comes with its own power brick that can support cards with up to an 84W TDP. That, together with the limited bandwidth on offer, makes the ATI Radeon HD 5670 bundle pretty much the top of the GUS pile, but at somewhere around $229 that doesn’t look like a terrible deal at all. Alternatively, you can buy the bare unit for around $100 and make use of some old GPU to give a little extra pep to your laptop. It’s all good.

Secure Digital Cards: Compact Data Storage and Transfer solution

Category: Memory Cardsadmin @ 1:06 am

In the age of digital electronics, Memory cards are changing the way we store and transfer data. Day by day SD cards are finding increased usage in mobile phones, cameras, camcorders, GPS navigation devices and gaming devices. The compactness of SD memory card make it the ideal choice for digital component manufacturers to use SD card based storage platforms to store and transfer images, music, video and other data. The SD memory card comes in various capacities and transfer speeds and faster transfer speeds are associated with the capacity of the SD memory. These days, cell phones which come loaded with multimedia features with ability to capture photos and videos, are selling fast than the less endowed models. Some newer computers have a card reader built into the system, or an inexpensive external card reader can be purchased. Since there are many different types of flash memory cards, be sure the card reader is made for the SD memory card, or capable of reading various formats. The type of memory card you use is dictated by which cell phone or digital camera you use and one feature of all the high end models is its amount of expandable memory space with SD Cards. The different types of flash memory cards for use in digital cameras are Secure Digital (SD), CompactFlash (CF), MultiMediaCard (MMC) xD-Picture Card (xD) and SmartMedia (SM) card. Most cell phones make use of miniSD cards. Being one of the smallest available flash cards in the market, these miniSD cards are meeting fast expanding needs of the consumer or the end user in a big way. The memory and storage capabilities of the SD cards are getting bigger and faster with most SD cards manufacturers offering up to 32 with increase in reading and writing speeds of up to 150x speed and more. Most SD cards work on preformatted FAT or FAT 32 file system which allows the card to be accessed with just an SD reader which can be connected to any output or input. When shooting digital photographs, the performance of the memory card can be critical issue, that could have an effect on the number of shots and also on the writing quality. This is more visible while shooting in continuous shooting mode or burst mode. To support continuous shooting at 3 fps or more the SD card should be capable of writing at high speeds, so that there is no time lost between one shot and the other. High-Capacity SD cards are equipped to handle higher data transfer rates and have speeds of 200x or higher. For added reliability and durability, most CD memory cards have no moving parts that could wear out or break. All branded SD cards available in the market are 100-percent tested and free live technical support. There is also a new kind of SD card called the SDHC cards which are differently designed, these SDHC can be read by SDHC host devices. Starting at 4GB, SDHC cards offer larger-volume data storage and optimized recording performance with support for FAT 32 file formats. SDHC cards use new class rating for speed that deliver a minimum data transfer rate for optimum performance with SDHC devices.

Xomobo is Pleased to Announce Perlego to Offer Their Mobile Device Management Solution for Symbian, Blackberry, Windows Mobile, Java and Palm

Category: Windows Mobileadmin @ 3:44 pm

Xomobo has partnered with Perlego to launch their device management solution for companies looking to roll out large numbers of mobiles devices. Perlego’s Mobile Device Management solution is for Symbian, Blackberry, Windows Mobile, Java and Palm PDAs and Smartphones Perlego’s Mobile Device Lifecycle Management solution provides everything required to help you deploy next generation devices quickly, improve business velocity while eliminating down time during the service life of the device, and smooth the transition, whether planned or necessitated by loss or theft, to the next device. Deploy in Minutes – with web access to a secure hosted domain managing your devices and client software that doesn’t require configuration, you can be up and running on Perlego in minutes, not weeks or months. Handle All of your Devices – whether you are using devices running on Symbian®, Palm® or Microsoft® operating systems, or any combination of those, Perlego can manage them all in one application, over the air. Even if they are using different cellular service providers, you only need one solution – Perlego. Scalable to Meet your Needs – it doesn’t matter if you are managing 5 or 5,000 devices, the Perlego Mobile Device Lifecycle Management solution works easily, quickly and affordably. Mobile Device Lifecycle Management Xomobo provides you everything needed to manage a mobile device throughout its useful life. Starting with Deployment, continuing on through the Service Life and transitioning at Termination, Perlego has the functionality, flexibility and affordability to address all of your requirementsDeploymentIn the past, making sure a new mobile device was set up correctly before it was put into use by an employee involved hours of setting the correct user configurations, loading approved applications and applying the most recent updates manually or by tethering to the IT administrator’s computer. This drain on resources meant slower release of these devices into practical use and a high chance of error due to manual input. Perlego’s Lifecycle Management solution allows you to apply configurations and install applications over the air, without manual intervention. Set up one device or configure whole classes of devices in minutes – and never require the user to do anything. Turn your next generation mobile devices into true productivity tools right from the start. Service LifeMaking sure that next generation devices live up to their potential means two things: 1) utilizing them to accelerate business velocity, and 2) minimizing their down time. Business Velocity – Mobile devices are maximizing their value to an enterprise when they can deliver to the user the information they need, when they need it. Mobiliseyouroffice’s Mobile Device Lifecycle Management solution gives you the power to create customized download catalogs for your users. Make files available to all of your users, logical groups of employees or even an individual device. Perlego gives you the tools to quickly distribute graphics, sounds, media files, Microsoft Word® documents, Excel® spreadsheets or PowerPoint® slides directly to the device. Provide them as a user-initiated optional download or mandate their distribution as a remote administrator-triggered “push” to the device. More reliable than email attachments and with an audit trail of who did, and did not, access the files. Additionally, you can assure that user data will survive even a catastrophic event such as a hard reset. With the backup and restore capabilities Mobiliseyouroffice provides, users can make sure more than just your contacts and calendar remain in tact. Other documents, files and applications can be backed up as well. Users can manually execute a backup, schedule the backup sessions to happen regularly or the administrator can trigger a backup of the device remotely as well. If the device crashes or becomes corrupted, simply restore from the most recent backup set. Users can even restore their PIM data from one type of device to another (for example, from a PocketPC to a Symbian device). IT Resources When a mobile device has issues, it can be frustrating and costly to have the employee call support and be talked through solving their problem. It can be even more expensive to take the device out of service, ship it to the IT department, manually correct the issue and ship it back. Can you really afford to manage your devices this way? With Perlego’s Mobile Device Lifecycle Management solution, you can diagnose and solve problems over the air without ever taking the device out of service. Reset configuration files, update user settings, apply patches, install applications or even revoke access to the data on the device from the administrative console. Some clients estimate they have reduced 60% of the calls they take for mobile device support by using the Mobile Device Lifecycle Management solution. TerminationSometimes the end of a mobile device’s useful life within a company is a planned event. More often than not, it isn’t. Either way, Perlego’s Mobile Device Lifecycle Management solution lets you smooth the transition from one device to the next. One of the biggest risks to the organization is when a mobile device is lost or stolen that holds confidential data. In that case, Perlego lets you status the device and take action. Backup the data on the device, if it hasn’t been done recently, and then secure the device. Lock it over the air and make sure unauthorized personnel cannot access your data or even use the phone. Just as importantly, Perlego helps you keep that employee productive; allowing you to deploy the next device with all of the critical data, applications and user settings they had before. For more information, please take a look at http://www. xomobo. com or email sales@xomobo. com
